On the first day. My dad had difficulties walking. He thought it was because of exercising too much the day before. We went jogging. He jogged. I brought my dog and my cousin along. Hehe. Okay. So he thought it wasn’t much of a big deal he decided to not go to the doctor. On the second day. His visions blurred a little. He still didn’t think it was a very serious thing and decided to stay home and rest. On the next day(27th march) he went for work. And during lunch hour he felt this numbness in his hands while he was driving. Witnesses said that he was pressing and massaging his hands. LOL. Ok lar. My cousin said haha. Witness just sound so formal. Anyway. As he was trying to get out of the car.
Well. He couldn’t so my dads collegues sent him to the nearest hospital which was assunta. He checked in and they took some test on my dad. My dad took a brain scan that wasn’t clear enough to tell what really went wrong they suggested my dad go for a MRI scan the next day. The doctor (whom shall not be named ) said that this was just a minor thing as he said there was water in my dads ears that was causing imbalance in the body. He also said after taking the medication the next day you’re up and running. So he says.
The next day.(28th march) My dad woke up with a bleeding hand. Apparently the needle in his hand dropped out while he was sleeping he told me to get the nurse. I pressed the alarm and they didn’t come immediately. So I decided to walk there myself. Ther was only one nurse there. I told her my dad was bleeding. She only said “oh.okay.” after all the blood shed my dad was a lil dizzy and found his condition even worse then before. After going for the mri scan the same doctor said that he was not a neuro surgeon so he cannot confirm what was shown in the brain scan. He DID suggest that it might be a minor stroke or maybe a blood vessel in the brain that sort of expanded. I cancelled tuition and told mr tai that I was at the hospital.
News spreaded fast my 3rd uncle came. Haha! My tuition teacher and my cousin are best friends. I told him he told my cousin my cousin told my uncle and they came straight away. At 9.pm on the same night. The neuro surgeon came and we had to move out because he wanted to talk to my dad. He said that he couldn’t confirm what was making my dad feeling all shitty. I can’t quite rmb what he said but oh well. That’s not the point. He told my dad that he was going to run some blood tests to check his blood and cholestrol level and all. They put my dad on fasting( something like puasa ) and left.
The next day ( 29th march) the nurse came in and took some of my dad’s blood took away the fasting sign and left. A few hours later, the doctor (whom shall not be named ) came back and told my dad the not so good news. At start, he said “ the bad news is. . . . you cannot go home.” LOL. Then he told my dad that he might be attacjed by this special syndrome called guillian barre syndrome (the doctor gave me guellian barre syndrome), this thing is caused by the antibodies fighting against each other and which also affects the peripheral nervous system . soooooo my point is . . that the weakness and abnormal sensations spread to the arms and upper body. These symptoms can increase in intensity until the muscles cannot be used at all and the patient is almost totally paralyzed. In these cases, the disorder is life-threatening and is considered a medical emergency. The patient is often put on a respirator to assist with breathing* sooo I got kinda freaked out about it. I can imagine how hard it will be for my dad that loves to move around and hate showing how weak he is would feel. He is a man who depends on no one but himself but now. He needs us. Today. He still can walk but it gets a little wobbly at times his arms are still strong enough to brush his teeth. So I wasn’t worried. People were calling him and asking about his conditions and all. My dad didn’t really trust the doctor because he gave my dad 3 different possibilities of the sickness in 3 days or less. Luckily my aunt used to be a nurse so she could read the reports about my dads brain scan. Anyway I stayed another night in the hospital. On the 30th march, which is today , my dad was getting weaker and weaker now he cant even lift his cup to drink water. I got his breakfast ready and turned on the laptop to scribble down things I wanted to write about before I forget. Today , they will be abstracting my dads spinal cord fluid (which will hurt A LOT * it feels like someone poking a thick and I mean thick* needle near the end of your backbone.) Ouch X100. I can feel my backbone hurting now.LOL. I really really hope my dad gets treatment before everything gets worsen. As they say the worse comes the worse my dads muscles will be completely paralyzed. Then he’ll need a respirator to help him with the breathing. At 10.30am. I went out for breakfast/lunch while the doctor abstracted my dads spinal cord fluid. My dad is not allowed to move for 6 hours. Well. Another night in the hospital I suppose. Lol. And he said he wanted to check out today. His treatment starts tomorrow where they will insert this needle with the medication to transfer wtv vaccine they need to help my dad with this syndrome. Its called plasmapheresis.it costs 15k.
I have lots of monthly test this week I think.. And I dun have the mood to study. Sigh. I really worry. And I pray really hard to God.
I have a feeling that God wants me to learn something from Him.
I have learnt to overcome fear of losing someone I love.
I have learnt that backing out will not do any good.
I know that God is giving me this oppoturnity to learn something.
And I am. I really am.
Although tears are shed.
Hearts may worry.
The best way is to stay calm.
And give my dad some time to recover.
All the pain he will face.
And the disappointments that he will get
For being unable to move.
He still has no choice but to go through this like a man.
And I have to continue my life as a student.
But I will take some time off studies
And take care of my dad.
I hope for prayers from my friends and family.
And all the love I can get.
whats wrong with dad?dun really trust the doctor.but thats wat he said.
What is Guillain-Barre Syndrome?
Guillain-Barré syndrome is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. The first symptoms of this disorder include varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs. In many instances, the weakness and abnormal sensations spread to the arms and upper body. These symptoms can increase in intensity until the muscles cannot be used at all and the patient is almost totally paralyzed. In these cases, the disorder is life-threatening and is considered a medical emergency. The patient is often put on a respirator to assist with breathing. Most patients, however, recover from even the most severe cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome, although some continue to have some degree of weakness. Guillain-Barré syndrome is rare. Usually Guillain-Barré occurs a few days or weeks after the patient has had symptoms of a respiratory or gastrointestinal viral infection. Occasionally, surgery or vaccinations will trigger the syndrome. The disorder can develop over the course of hours or days, or it may take up to 3 to 4 weeks. No one yet knows why Guillain-Barré strikes some people and not others or what sets the disease in motion. What scientists do know is that the body's immune system begins to attack the body itself, causing what is known as an autoimmune disease. Guillain-Barré is called a syndrome rather than a disease because it is not clear that a specific disease-causing agent is involved. Reflexes such as knee jerks are usually lost. Because the signals traveling along the nerve are slower, a nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test can give a doctor clues to aid the diagnosis. The cerebrospinal fluid that bathes the spinal cord and brain contains more protein than usual, so a physician may decide to perform a spinal tap.
